Biography:
Tim Bagwell was born in Olney, Ill., and has lived much of his life in southern Illinois. He graduated from Olney's East Richland High School in 1973, and attended Olney Central College for a year.
He went on to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he earned a B.A. in history and political science and a B.S. in radio and television in 1978.
In 1985, Bagwell received a master's degree in speech communication from SIU. He earned a doctorate in public administration and policy analysis from St. Louis University in 2001.
After completing his undergraduate degree, Bagwell spent four years in public affairs with the Department of Defense National Image and Mapping Agency.
He later completing his master's degree at SIU, then returned to Washington and taught communications courses at Howard University, American University, University of Maryland and Northern Virginia Community College.
In 1987, he took a full-time job with Radio Shack in Washington, teaching people how to use computers. He transferred to St. Louis in 1989, so he could begin taking classes for his doctorate.
From 1990 to 1994, Bagwell worked for Metlife Health Care Management Corp., testing computer software. He was a computer consultant from 1994 to 1997, and managed installation of new computer systems from 1998-2000 at BJC Health Care, which operates hospitals in St. Louis.
In 1997, he began operating his own company, New World Sciences Corp., which develops computer software and publishes Internet Journals. The company is dissolving, and Bagwell now teaches part-time for the University of Phoenix Online.
Bagwell is divorced.
