Biography:
Born in Nicaragua, Claudia Bermudez is the daughter of Enrique Bermudez, the military commander of the Nicaraguan Contra rebels during the 1980s.
She came to the United States when she was a child and attended elementary and junior high school in San Francisco. At 16, she moved back to Nicaragua to live with her father and graduated from the American-Nicaraguan High School in Managua. Her father's assasination in 1991 turned her into a prominent advocate for freedom and democracy in that country.
Bermudez attended Hawaii Loa College in Kaneohe and earned a degree in 1988 in social science with an emphasis in business and economics. She earned a master's degree in cultural and social anthropology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 1999. Later, she began doctoral studies in peace and conflict resolution at the Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center. She is the Chief Executive Officer of SeniorJobShop.com, an online job service for people over 50.
She lives in Oakland with her husband, Brian.
