Biography:
Rob Bishop was born and raised in Kaysville and lives in Brigham City. He earned a political science degree from the University of Utah.
Since 1974 he has taught government and U.S. history at Box Elder High School in Brigham City. He speaks German, having served a Mormon church mission to that country as a young man.
Bishop entered politics in 1978, getting elected to the Utah House of Representatives, where he served for 16 years, the last two as speaker of the House.
He has served his political party for more than thirty years, starting as a precinct boss and rising to chairman of the Utah Republican Party from 1997 to 2001.
Until his 2002 campaign for the U.S. House, he was a lobbyist at the Utah Capitol with clients including the National Rifle Association, the Utah Shooting Sports Council, Utah credit unions and Envirocare of Utah, a depository for low-level nuclear waste.
He and his wife, the former Jeralynn Hansen, have five children.

In 1978, Rob Bishop was elected to the Utah House of Representatives, staying there for 16 years, the last two as House speaker.
He was elected to Congress in 2002 with 61 percent of the vote.
