John A. Boehner was elected to the U.S. House in 1990 with 61 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Gregory Jolivette. Boehner was re-elected in 1992 with 71 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Fred Sennett. He was unopposed in 1994.
He was re-elected in 1996 with 70 percent of the vote against Democrat Jeffrey Kitchen. Boehner was re-elected in 1998, defeating Democrat John Griffin with 71 percent of the vote. In 2000, he was re-elected with 71 percent of the vote, defeating John Parks. In 2002, Boehner was re-elected with 72 percent of the vote, defeating Jeff Hardenbrook. Boehner served in the Ohio House, 1984-90.
He had no opposition in Ohio's March 2, 2004, primary election for the 8th District.
