Biography:

Henry Brown was born in Bishopville, S.C., and graduated from Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner in 1953. He attended The Citadel and then-Baptist College in Charleston and now lives in Hanahan.

Brown is a businessman and investor who is a retired vice president of Piggly Wiggly Carolina Inc. He was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1985 and, in 1995, became the first Republican to serve as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee in a century. He was elected to the U.S. House in 2000.

Brown is married to the former Billye Beaver and has three children.


Past Campaigns:

Henry Brown was elected to the state House of Representatives in 1985 and, prior to that, served four years on the Hanahan City Council and two years on the city planning board. He was elected to the U.S. House in 2000 with 61 percent of the vote.

Brown faced no Democratic opponent in the 2002 election and won 90 percent of the vote.

In the June 2004 GOP primary, Brown defeated Bob Batchelder, winning 83 percent of the vote.
