Biography:

George Bruno was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. After graduating high school in 1959, he entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Bruno later earned a bachelor's degree in marine transportation and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Bruno worked on merchant ships for five years, including a stint delivering supplies to U.S. troops in Vietnam. He worked in the real estate business in St. Louis until relocating to Northern California in 1981. He has since worked for the Department of the Navy at Military Sealift Command and as a maritime consultant.

Bruno lives in Alameda and has five grown children.
