Biography:
James "Lex" Bufford was born Nov. 29, 1952, in Jonesburo, Ark., but grew up in Madera, Calif., where he still lives today. The son of a high school teacher and a sales clerk, he proudly describes himself as a product of local public education.
Bufford attended Fresno City College and California State University, Fresno, earning an associate's degree in anthropology, although he says he's just a few units shy of a bachelor's degree. In 1996, he opened up a shop that sells "new age smoking accessories," which now has two locations, in Madera and Merced. Bufford is engaged to a woman he's been partnered with for 14 years. They have four children.
