Biography:
Michael Burgess grew up in Denton County, Texas. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees from North Texas State University, now the University of North Texas, he received his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, and completed residency programs at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Burgess has also received a master's degree in medical management from the University of Texas.
Burgess, who has delivered more than 3,000 babies, founded Private Practice Specialty Group for Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is former chief of staff for Lewisville Medical Center and was the chief of obstetrics at Lewisville Medical Center.
Burgess is an active participant in community outreach programs and strategic planning retreats to bring quality neonatal care to Lewisville.
He and his wife, Laura, have been married 30 years, and they have three grown children, including a son in the U.S. Air Force.
Past Campaigns:
Michael Burgess was elected as the Republican nominee in the April 2002 runoff over Scott Armey, son of retiring House Majority leader Dick Armey.
He went on to win with 75 percent of the vote in his first bid for Congressional office.
