Biography:

Max Burns still lives on his family's beef and timber farm where he grew up in rural Screven County. His campaign Web site depicts him sitting on a tractor, but Burns spends most of his time as a professor of Information Systems at Georgia Southern University's business school.

Burns served on the Screven County commission from 1993 to 1997, and as commission chairman from 1997 to 1998.

He was elected to his first term in the U.S. House in 2002, defeating Democrat Charles Walker Jr.

He and his wife, Lora Dean Black, have two grown sons.


Past Campaigns:

Max Burns won the Aug. 20 Republican primary with 50.4 percent of the vote, defeating his opponent by just 234 votes out of 27,596 cast.

He was elected to the House in November 2002, defeating Democrat Charles Walker Jr. with 55 percent of the vote.
