Biography:

Christopher B. Cannon was born in Utah and grew up in southern California.

He moved back to Utah in the 1960s to attend Brigham Young University. After graduating from BYU's Reuben Clark Law School in 1980, Cannon was an associate at a Provo, Utah, law firm.

In 1987, he and his brother, Joe, bought Geneva Steel, a Utah steel plant. But the brothers fought over modernizing the plant and Joe Cannon bought his brother out of the business in 1990.

Chris Cannon went on to become president and chairman of the board of Cannon Industries Inc., a venture capital firm.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

Cannon and his wife, Claudia, have eight children. They live in Mapleton, Utah.


Past Campaigns:

Chris Cannon was elected to the U.S. House in 1996, receiving 51 percent of the vote against incumbent Democrat Bill Orton. He was re-elected in 1998 without major party opposition.

In 2000, he was re-elected with 59 percent of the vote. In 2002, he defeated Democrat Nancy Woodside, receiving 67 percent.
