Biography:

John Carter was born in Houston and resides in Round Rock, Texas.

After graduating from law school, Carter served as the first general counsel tothe Texas House of Representatives Agriculture Committee. He begana private law practice in the early 1970s and continued to practice law while serving as a municipal judge in Round Rock until 1980.

He took the bench as state district judge in 1982 and was re-elected four times, garnering more than 60 percent of the vote.

Carter retired from the bench in 2001 after 20 years of service.

Carter and his wife, Erika, have four children.


Past Campaigns:

John Carter was appointed the judge of the 277th District Court of Williamson County on May 19, 1981.

In 1982 he was elected district judge, the first county-wide elected Republican in Williamson County history.

He was elected to Congress in 2002 with 69 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat David Bagley.
