Roland Chicas was born in New York City and now lives in Aurora. He founded Roland Chicas Specialties, operating four retail stores and a wholesale operation dealing in herbs and spices in New York City from 1980 to 1994.
He has a bachelor of science in business administration and metropolitan studies from Ramapo College, Mahwah, N.J., in 1979.
He and his wife, Kelly, have a 6-year-old daughter.
Roland Chicas ran for the 1st Congressional District in 2002 against state Sen. Ken Chlouber and conceded to avoid a primary.
