Biography:

Chris Chocola grew up in Michigan, graduating from Williamston High School in 1980. He graduated from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., in 1984 with a double major in business administration and political economy.

He was recruited for the management training program with Society National Bank, now known as KeyBank, in Cleveland, Ohio in 1984, and was serving as a foreign exchange trader when he left to attend Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Mich.

After graduating in 1988, Chocola joined CTB International Corp. in Milford, Ind., a producer of equipment for poultry, hog and grain industries that his grandfather founded. He initially managed all the legal aspects of the business as corporate counsel and was named chief executive officer in 1994 and became chairman of the board in 1999.

In 2002 he oversaw the sale of the the company to Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the investment firm of billionaire Warren Buffett.

Chocola and his wife, Sarah, live in Bristol, Ind., where they are raising their two children.


Past Campaigns:

In 2000, Chris Chocola mounted a bigger challenge than many political observers expected against five-term incumbent Rep. Tim Roemer, spending nearly twice as much as Roemer.

He received 47 percent of the vote, compared to Roemer's 52 percent. In 2002, after Roemer decided not to run again, Chocola defeated Democrat Jill Long Thompson to win his first U.S. House seat.
