Biography:

Tom Cole was born in Shreveport, La., and raised in Moore, Okla. His father was in the Air Force and later was a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. His mother, Helen, who died in 2004, was a state House member and state senator from Moore. Cole and his wife, Ellen, have one son and live in Moore.

Cole is a former state Republican chairman who has headed a political consulting firm since 1989. He was elected in 1988 to the Senate seat previously held by his mother. He was appointed secretary of state in 1995 by Gov. Frank Keating.

Cole has served as executive director of the National Republican Congressional Committee and chief of staff of the Republican National Committee.

Cole was elected to Congress in 2002.


Past Campaigns:

Tom Cole was elected to the state Senate in 1988, winning a close race with Democrat Marilyn Pryor for the Senate post previously held by Cole's mother, Helen.

He was elected to the House in 2002 with 54 percent of the vote.
