Biography:

Rick Crawford was born in Cedartown, Ga., where he still lives and works as an attorney. His law practice focuses on real estate, family, criminal and juvenile law, and he also represents Georgia's Department of Transportation as an assistant attorney general. Formerly, he served as chief magistrate for Polk County and as a municipal judge for Cedartown and Rockmart, Ga.

Beyond his professional experience, Crawford has an extensive education background, including a bachelor's degree in music from Jacksonville State University and a political science degree and law degree from Georgia State University. He has studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, is working on a dissertation in political science at the University of Georgia and has taught part-time at State University of West Georgia.

He and his wife, Susan Pinkard, have two children.

Past Campaigns:

This is Rick Crawford's first run for Congress. He faced no competition in the 2004 Democratic primary and battles first-term Republican U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey in November.

Although Crawford has never sought elective office, he has been active in the community, serving as chairman of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce and as president of the Cedartown Kiwanis and Exchange clubs.

He also served as chairman of the Polk County Democratic Committee, president of the county's Democratic Association and as a member of the state Democratic Committee.
