Biography:

Tom Crowson was born at a military hospital in San Diego, Calif., on Nov. 19, 1951. He graduated from Mission Bay High School and studied linguistics at the University of California at San Diego. After college, he became a firefighter in 1980 and retired in 1992, moving to Washington state.

He obtained a real estate license and became a homebuilder in the Olympia area. He and his wife, Tootie, a teacher, have two adult children, Alicia, a teacher, and Will, a volunteer fireman and a college student.

He worked on campaigns and took the plunge himself in 2004, winning the Republican nomination in September to take on three-term Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., in a Democratic-leaning district.
