Biography:

Barbara Cubin is a fifth-generation Wyoming resident who was born in Salinas, Calif., the great-great-granddaughter of one of the state's original homesteaders. She returned to Wyoming with her family soon after birth and received all of her elementary and secondary education in Casper, Wyo., where she still resides.

Cubin received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Creighton University in 1969. Cubin worked as a substitute science and math teacher until she was employed full-time as a social worker for senior citizens and disabled adults. Cubin worked for the state Labor Department and Ironworkers' Union to train minorities and Vietnam veterans to become iron workers.

In 1974, Cubin joined the Wyoming Machinery Co. as a chemist and in 1975, began managing her husband's doctor's office. She became a realtor in 1979. Cubin was first elected to the state House in 1986, winning re-election twice.

In 1992, she was elected to the state Senate. She was first elected to the U.S. House in 1994.

Cubin and her husband, Fritz, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

Barbara Cubin was elected to the U.S. House in 1994 with 53 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Bob Schuster.

In 1996, she was re-elected with 55 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Pete Maxfield. Cubin was re-elected in 1998, defeating Democrat Scott Farris with 58 percent of the vote.

In 2000, she was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote. She was re-elected in 2002 with 61 percent of the vote.

Cubin served in the Wyoming House, 1986-92; and in the Wyoming Senate, 1992-94.
