Biography:

Fred Davis was born on January 12, 1931, in Altus, Ark. He came to California after serving in the U.S. Air Force in the United States during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Redlands.

Davis has spent much of his life working as a probation officer and social worker. He retired in 1999. Now, as the president of the Visalia Democratic Club, he says he running as a "sacrificial lamb" in the heavily Republican District 21. His opponent was running unopposed, and the Democratic party asked him to join the race.

"My chances of winning are slim and none, but I'm just having a good time and trying to raise issues when I can," he says, noting that he hopes for the opportunity to debate incumbent GOP Rep. Devin Nunes.

Davis is divorced. He earned a master's degree in counseling from California State University, Hayward in 1973.
