Biography:

A veteran state legislator from tiny Pall Mall, Tenn., Lincoln Davis twice made unsuccessful runs for the Democratic nomination in congressional races before defeating wealthy Tullahoma businesswoman Fran Marcum in 2002.

The victory followed a big-spending, nasty primary campaign.

Davis, a beef, cattle and tobacco farmer and former mayor of Byrdstown, Tenn., worked as a soil scientist with Soil Conservation Services in 1966 and as a Farmers Home Administration loan officer in 1968.

He served a term as state representative from 1980 to 1984 and was elected to the state Senate in 1996.

A 1962 graduate of Alvin C. York Agricultural Institute and 1966 graduate of Tennessee Tech with a bachelor of Science degree in agronomy, Davis married Lynda Compton in 1964. They have three children.


Past Campaigns:

Lincoln Davis twice made runs for the Democratic nomination but only succeeded in 2002. He defeated Republican Janice Bowling of Tullahoma with 52 percent of the vote in the general election.
