Biography:
Charlie Dent, a Republican, is a is a life-long Lehigh Valley resident. He graduated from William Allen High School in Allentown in 1978 before earning a bachelor's degree in foreign service and international politics from Penn State University in 1982 and a master's of public administration from Lehigh University in 1993.
Before winning election to the state House in 1990, Dent worked as a development officer at Lehigh University from 1986 to 1990. He served four terms in the House before winning his current state Senate seat in 1998.
In the Senate, Dent chairs the Urban Affairs and Housing Committee and is vice chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. He is also a member of the Senate Appropriations, Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure and Finance committees.
Dent was recently appointed to represent the Senate as a member of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
Dent's Senate district covers parts of Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties. He and his wife, Pamela, live with their three children _ Kathryn Elizabeth, William Reed and Charles John, or "Jack" _ in Allentown.
