Biography:

Norm Dicks was born in Bremerton, Wash., and now lives in nearby Belfair. He received a bachelor's degree in political science in 1963 and a law degree in 1968 from the University of Washington.

He worked as a legislative and appropriations assistant to U.S. Sen. Warren Magnuson, 1968-73, and was his administrative aide until 1976.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1976.

Dicks and his wife, Suzanne, have two children.

Norm Dicks was elected to the U.S. House in 1976 with 74 percent of the vote. He has re-elected 13 times since then, winning 64 percent of the vote in 2002. In 2004, He is opposed by Republican Doug Cloud.
