Biography:

Larry Diedrich lives on the same family farm where he grew up near Elkton, S.D. He attended Elkton High School and went on to graduate from South Dakota State University with a degree in Animal Science.

He eventually purchased the farm and he and his wife Jackie raise soybeans, corn and hogs. They have four children and two foster children.

Diedrich served as President of the South Dakota Soybean Association and in 1994 became president of the National Soybean Association.

In 1996, Diedrich was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives, where he served for four years. He was elected to the state Senate in 2000 and resigned in 2004 to run for the U.S. House seat left vacant after Rep. Bill Janklow resigned. Janklow was forced to resign after he pleaded guilty to a second-degree manslaughter charge in connection with a traffic accident. Diedrich lost the special election to Democrat Stephanie Herseth.


Past Campaigns:

Larry Diedrich was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 1996 and served two two-year terms. He was elected to the state Senate in 2000 and resigned to run for the U.S. House in 2004. He lost that election to Democrat Stephanie Herseth but will face her again in November when the seat is up for a full two-year term.
