Biography:

John Doolittle was born in Glendale, Calif., and lives in Rocklin, Calif. He received a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a law degree from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, Calif.

He served two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. In 1979, he worked as an aide to state Sen. H.L. Richardson, the conservative founder of Gun Owners of America and the Law and Order Campaign Committee.

Doolittle served in the California Senate, 1981-91. He was chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus, 1987-1990. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1990.

Doolittle and his wife, Julie, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

John Doolittle was elected to the U.S. House in 1990, defeating Democrat Patricia Malberg with 51 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1992 with 50 percent of the vote defeating Malberg again.

He defeated Democrat Katie Hirning in 1994 with 61 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1996 with 60 percent of the vote, defeating Hirning. Doolittle was elected to a fifth term in 1998 defeating Democrat David Shapiro with 62 percent of the vote.

Doolittle won in 2000 with 63 percent of the vote against Democrat Mark Norberg.

He was re-elected in 2002, was uncontested in the March 2004 Republican primary for his congressional seat.

Doolittle served in the state Senate, 1981-91.
