Terry Everett was first elected to the U.S. House in 1992 with 49 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat George Wallace Jr. He was re-elected in 1994 with 74 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Brian Dowling.
In 1996, he was re-elected with 63 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Bob Gaines. Everett was elected to a fourth term in 1998 defeating Democrat Joe Fondren with 69 percent of the vote.
He ran unopposed in the 2000 GOP primary and defeated Democrat Charles Woods in the November election with 68 percent of the vote.
He was re-elected over Woods again in 2002 with 69 percent of the vote. He was unopposed in the 2004 primary race.
