Biography:

Vito J. Fossella was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and still lives in the borough. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and a law degree from Fordham University in 1993. Fossella served on the New York City Council from 1994 to 1997. He first was elected to the U.S. House in November 1997 after Republican Rep. Susan Molinari resigned to host a weekend morning news show on CBS.

Fossella and his wife, Mary Pat, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

Vito Fossella served on the New York City Council from 1993 to 1997. He was elected to the U.S. House in special election in November 1997, defeating Democratic Assemblyman Eric Vitaliano with 61 percent of the vote. He won a full two-year term the following November and been re-elected every two years since.
