Bill Fuller's first political campaign came in 1983, when legislators were elected in a special election after the courts redrew the state's legislative districts. For that election only, the Democratic Party chose its candidates without holding a primary. Fuller was not chosen by the Democrats, but ran as an independent and won.
He later ran as a Democrat and won re-election to his east Alabama House seat in 1986, 1990, 1994 and 1998.
He is making his first run for Congress.
