Biography:
Louie Gohmert grew up in Mount Pleasant and earned a bachelor's degree in history at Texas A&M, where he was brigade commander in Aggie's Corps of Cadets.
He graduated from Baylor University's School of Law and briefly worked as an assistant district attorney for Titus, Morris, and Camp counties while awaiting his active military duty orders.
Following his tour of duty, he built a private civil litigation practice from 1982 to 1992, when he was elected judge for the 7th District Court in Tyler. Gov. Rick Perry appointed Gohmert to fill an unexpired term as chief justice of the 12th Court of Appeals in July 2002. He held that position for six months, issuing more than 50 opinions before his term expired in January 2003.
Since then, Gohmert has returned to his private law practice specializing in mediation. Gohmert and his wife have three grown daughters.

Louie Gohmert was first elected judge for the 7th District Court in Tyler in 1992. He was re-elected to second and third terms without opposition.
