Bob Goodlatte was elected to the U.S. House in 1992 with 60 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Stephen Musselwhite. He was unopposed in 1994.
In 1996, he was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote against Democrat Jeffrey Grey. Goodlatte was re-elected in 1998, defeating Democrat David Bowers with 69 percent of the vote.
He had no Democratic opposition in 2000 and 2002.
