Biography:

Charles Hargrave was born in Berkeley, Calif., on June 4, 1959. He has lived in the eastern part of the San Francisco Bay Area for all of his life and attended Oakland public schools.

He graduated from Laney College in Oakland, Calif., in 1981 with an associate's degree in finance. He now lives in San Pablo, Calif, where he has lived since 2000.

He works as a housing finance officer for Housing Conservation & Development Corp., which builds affordable housing for seniors and low-income families in the San Francisco Bay Area. He sits on the board of directors for educational organization Invest in Kids, the City of San Pablo Commission on the Aging, the American Education Foundation International and the California Republican Committee on Veterans Affairs.

He is single.


Past Campaigns:

In March 2000, Charles Hargrave ran against Democrat Darrell Steinberg for the 9th district seat in the State Assembly. Hargrave lost the election, receiving 24.5 percent of the votes compared to Steinberg's 69.1 percent.

Hargrave ran unopposed for the Republican nomination in the March 2002 primary for the 7th District. He lost in the general election to Democratic incumbent Rep. George Miller, gaining only 26 percent of the vote to 71 percent for Miller.
