Biography:

Darlene Hooley is a native of North Dakota and moved to Oregon when she was 8. She lives in West Linn, Ore., a Portland suburb.

Hooley holds a bachelor's degree in education from Oregon State University and is a former teacher. She first held elective office as a West Linn City Council member, then served in the Oregon House from 1981 to 1987.

Hooley was a Clackamas County commissioner, a full-time elective post, from 1987 to 1996. She was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

Hooley is divorced, and has two grown children.


Past Campaigns:

Darlene Hooley was elected as a state representative in 1980, then re-elected to three more terms. She won a set in the U.S. House in 1996 with 52 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Rep. Jim Bunn. Hooley was re-elected in 1998, 2000 and 2002. She won 57 percent of the vote in 2000 and 55 percent two years later.
