Bob Inglis won three terms to the U.S. House beginning in 1992. He won the 1996 election with 71 percent of the vote. Inglis honored a three-term limit pledge and stepped down after that term.
In 1998, Inglis unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings for his seat. Hollings won the race with 53 percent of the vote to Inglis' 46 percent.
In this bid for the 4th District seat, Inglis has made no term limit pledge. He says that kind of limit is a mistake.
In the GOP primary in June, Inglis won 84 percent of the vote, handily defeating political newcomer Jack Adams and former state Rep. Carole Wells.
