Mike Johnson defeated self-proclaimed carpetbagger Jeffrey Vance _ who tried to raise money for his campaign by selling shares of it on eBay _ for the Democratic congressional nomination in the March 2 primary.

In 2002, Johnson lost to nine-term incumbent GOP Rep. Wally Herger, who he'll challenge for the seat again in November 2004.
