Biography:
Jan Judy was born on December 11, 1946 in Fayetteville, Ark., and was raised in nearby Durham. She attended public schools and the College of the Ozarks at Clarksville before earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas.
She worked her way through college doing work study as a secretary, cleaning dorm rooms in the summer, and working mission Outreach as a physical education teacher at the first migrant worker summer school in Springdale.
As a mother of three, Jan worked in the press department at the Daisy Air Rifle plant in Rogers, and managed a store for Southland Corporation. After graduating from college she worked as the Work Activity Director for Abilities Unlimited, a sheltered workshop for the disabled.
She then spent five years as the Family Services Coordinator for Washington County Head Start. She and her husband operated a lawn Service and then opened a pizza restaurant in their hometown of Elkins. They also owned Crossroads USA, Jans family farm, with a small beef cattle operation.
Judy and her husband, Darrell, have five children.
Past Campaigns:
Jan Judy was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1998 and was re-elected in 2000 and 2002. She faced no opposition in the 2004 Democratic primary for the U.S. House.
