Biography:

Patrick J. Kennedy was born in Brighton, Mass., the youngest of three children of Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy and Joan Bennett Kennedy. He resides in Portsmouth, R.I.

Kennedy attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. He received a bachelor's degree in social science from Providence College in 1991. Kennedy served in the Rhode Island House, 1988-94. During his final term, Kennedy served as chairman of the House Rules Committee.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1994. Kennedy is single.


Past Campaigns:

Patrick Kennedy was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 1988, and served three terms.

He won election to the House in 1994, defeating Republican Kevin Vigilante 54 percent to 46 percent. Kennedy was re-elected in 1996 with 69 percent of the vote against Republican Giovanni Cicione.

He was re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican Ron Santa with 67 percent of the vote. In 2000, he defeated Rpublican Stephen Cabral with 67 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2002 with 60 percent of the vote.
