Biography:

Peter King was born in New York City, and resides in Seaford, N.Y. He received a bachelor's degree in history from St. Francis College in 1965 and a law degree from Notre Dame University in 1968. He went into private law practice and served as a Hempstead town councilman before first being elected as Nassau County comptroller in 1981. King ran unsuccessfully for state attorney general in 1986.

In 1992, he won election to the House.

King and his wife, Rosemary, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

Peter King was first elected to the U.S. House in 1992. He has been re-elected by increasingly wide margins every term since.

In 2002, he was re-elected with 72 percent of the vote.

Before arriving in Congress, King was elected Nassau County comptroller in 1981. He was elected to the Hempstead Town Council in 1978 and ran unsuccessfully in 1986 for state attorney general.
