Scott Knapp was born in Illinois, the son of a Methodist minister. He was raised on a family farm and went to work on the Mississippi River in a part-time job as a deck hand. He worked his way up to chief engineer on a river boat.

Knapp moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 1983 to help in a family travel business. He started doing electrical work to help them and been doing it ever since.

Past Campaigns:

This is Scott Knapps's first campaign for public office and he acknowledges it's a long shot.

"I have a zero chance of winning," he said. "It's a very Democratic district. I have spent zero dollars and raised zero dollars. I'm trying to be as honest as I can. I have no real quarrel with Jim Cooper," the Democratic incumbent.
