Biography:

Joe Knollenberg was born and raised in the small mid-Illinois town of Mattoon. He resides in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Knollenberg was the fifth of 13 children. He worked his way through Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in social science and history. He then served for two years with the U.S. Army.

After leaving the Army, Knollenberg entered the insurance business, where he spent his professional life in sales and sales management. Knollenberg owned his own insurance agency in Troy, Mich.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1992.

Knollenberg and his wife, Sandie, have two grown sons.

Past Campaigns:

Joe Knollenberg was elected to the U.S. House in 1992, defeating Democrat Walter Briggs with 59 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1994 with 68 percent, defeating Democrat Mike Breshgold. In 1996, he was re-elected with 61 percent of the vote against Democrat Morris Frumin. Knollenberg was re-elected in 1998, defeating Democrat Travis Reeds with 64 percent of the vote.

In 2000, he was re-elected with 56 percent of the vote over attorney Matthew Frumin.

He defeated David Fink in 2002 with 58 percent of the vote.
