Biography:
Kris Kobach was born in Madison, Wis., but moved as a young boy to Topeka, Kan., where his father bought a car dealership.
He holds government and political science degrees from Harvard University and Oxford University and a law degree from Yale University. He teaches law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He had served two years on the Overland Park City Council when he received a one-year White House fellowship, working at the U.S. Justice Department. He stayed on another year at the Justice Department.
After returning to Kansas last year, he embarked on his race for the 3rd Congressional District seat held by Democrat Dennis Moore, quickly becoming conservatives' preferred candidate.
He and his wife, Heather, have a young daughter.
Past Campaigns:
Kris Kobach won the 2004 Republican primary in the 3rd District, defeating rival Adam Taff by 207 votes.
Kobach served for two years on the Overland Park City Council.
