Biography:

Tom Latham was born in Hampton, Iowa, and resides in Alexander, Iowa. He graduated from Latimer CAL High School and attended Wartburg College in 1967 and Iowa State University in 1970. He worked in banking and insurance in Colorado from 1970 to 1974, before returning to Iowa to take an insurance job.

In 1976, he launched the Latham Seed Company in Alexander, where he was a vice president and co-owner selling seed corn to farmers. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1994.

Latham and his wife, Kathy, have three grown children.


Past Campaigns:

Tom Latham was elected to the U.S. House in 1994, defeating Democrat Sheila McGuire with 61 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1996 with 65 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat MacDonald Smith. In 1998, Latham won re-election without opposition.

In 2000, he defeated Thomas D. Hall, a Glidden farmer, in the Republican Primary for the 5th District. Latham won re-election in 2000 with 69 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 2002.
