Steven LaTourette was elected to the U.S. House in 1994, defeating incumbent Democratic Rep. Eric Fingerhut and two independent challengers with 48 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1996 with 55 percent of the vote and in 1998, 2000 and 2002 by landslide margins.
LaTourette had no opposition in Ohio's March 2, 2004, primary election for the 14th District.
Before his congressional career, LaTourette lost a race for Madison Village Council in 1983 and lost a campaign for prosecutor in 1984. He won the race for prosecutor in 1988 and took office in 1989; he was unopposed for re-election in 1992.
