In 1992, Frank LoBiondo waged an impressive but unsuccessful bid to oust longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. William Hughes, garnering 43 percent of the vote.
He was elected to the U.S. House in 1994, defeating Democrat Louis Magazzu with 65 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1996, defeating Democrat Ruth Katz with 60 percent of the vote. In 1998, LoBiondo was re-elected, defeating Democrat Derek Hunsberger with 66 percent of the vote.
In 2000, LoBiondo was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote. He won re-election in 2002 garnering 69 percent of the vote.
