Biography:

Carolyn B. Maloney was born in Greensboro, N.C. and lives in New York City. She received a bachelor's degree in history and literature from Greensboro College in 1968. Maloney was a public school teacher in New York City, 1972-74.

In 1974, she became a special assistant in career and occupational education with the New York City Board of Education. She left that post in 1978 to become a legislative aide to the New York state Assembly Committee on Housing. In 1979, Maloney went to work for the state Senate minority leader, first as director of his advisory council and later as director of special projects. She served on the New York City Council, 1982-92.

She was elected to the U.S. House in 1992, and re-elected in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002. Maloney and her husband, Clifton, have two daughters.


Past Campaigns:

Carolyn Maloney was elected to the U.S. House in 1992 with 51 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Bill Green. She was re-elected in 1994 with 63 percent, defeating Republican Charles Millard. In 1996, she was re-elected with 72 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Jeffrey Livingston. Maloney was re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican Stephanie Kupferman with 77 percent of the vote. In 2000, she beat Republican C. Adrienne Rhodes with 73 percent of the vote.

She defeated Republican Anton Srdanovic in 2002 with 75 percent of the vote.
