Biography:

Kenny Marchant graduated from R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. He earned a bachelors degree and an honorary doctorate of Human Letters from Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma.

He was a councilman and mayor of Carrolton in the 1980s and was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1986. He served as Chairman of the Texas House Republican Caucus under Gov. Rick Perry and former Govs. George W. Bush and Bill Clements.

The Coppell Republican is chairman of the Texas House State Affairs Committee. He is a former chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee.

The nine-term representative owns a small investing company and also worked as a homebuilder and land developer in Dallas, Denton, northeast Tarrant Counties. He is on the advisory board of Children's Medical Center and heads a nonprofit foundation that funds church related humanitarian aid around the world.

Marchant has been named a Top Ten Legislator by Texas Monthly Magazine and Legislator of the Year by the Texas Municipal League.
