Biography:
Jane Mitakides was born in 1948 in Dayton, Ohio, and now lives in nearby Washington Township. She graduated from Centerville High School and attended Wright State University until 1974, majoring in English, but did not get her degree.
Mitakides began her career as a copywriter with Calderhead-Jackson Advertising in New York City, where she completed writing seminars at New York University. She returned to Ohio in 1970 and founded Helsley Advertising, which specializes in investor relations.
During the 1990s, she invested in a small recycling firm which has grown into a dental-waste recycling company. She is a founding member of the Democratic National Committee's Small Business Council.
Mitakides and her husband, John, have two children.
