Biography:

Gwen Moore was born on April 18, 1951, in Racine, Wis., and now lives in Milwaukee. She graduated from Marquette University in 1978 and was certified in credit union management at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1983.

She worked a series of government jobs and spearheaded an effort to establish a credit union in her neighborhood. She was elected to the state assembly in 1988 and the state aenate in 1992, representing portions of the city of Milwaukee.

She has three children.


Past Campaigns:

Gwen Moore won a seat in the state Assembly in 1988, her first bid for public office. She then won a seat in the state Senate in 1992 and had been re-elected twice before deciding to seek the seat of retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Kleczka. She beat out two other Democrats in the September primary, aided by the backing of Emily's List.
