Biography:
Jim Nickerson was born in Pittsburg, Texas, where he still resides. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1975 and immediately signed with the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Club and played for their minor team in Auburn, New York.
He played four years with the Phillies organization and one year in a Texas Rangers minor league team. He attended East Texas State University for one semester between seasons and operated a pulp wood/timber business. Nickerson does not have a college degree.
He met Vicki Riddle in 1979 and they married two years later. After baseball, Nickerson operated a restaurant for three years, then became interested the recycling business. He is now President of Nickco Recycling Inc., a company with 25-employees that Nickerson says is the country's largest recycler of used oil filters.
Nickerson has chaired an East Texas mental health center, served on the board of Northeast Texas Community College, chaired the Camp County Chamber of Commerce, served on a work force commission and won man-of-the-year honors in Camp County. He has never before run for public office.
