Biography:

Devin Nunes, a third generation dairy farmer, was born and raised in Tulare County, in the South San Joaquin Valley.

Nunes found his calling in politics and public service early when the then 22-year-old college student ran for a seat on the College of the Sequoias Board of Trustees against an 18-year incumbent. Nunes defeated the incumbent 65 percent to 35 percent.

During his tenure, Nunes led the effort to provide smaller communities greater access to the Internet and satellite educational services.

After graduating from the College of the Sequoias, Nunes enrolled in Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he received a bachelor's degree in agricultural business and a master's degree in agriculture. There, he was elected president of the college Republicans.

Nunes is a 2000 graduate of the California Ag Leadership Fellowship Program and was appointed by President Bush as state director for the Department of Agriculture. Nunes resigned from that position to run for Congress.

He is single.

Past Campaigns:

Devin Nunes was unopposed in the March 2004 Republican primary, as he sought the chance to run for his second term in Congress.

Nunes was first elected to the House in 2002. That race was his second bid for a congressional office. He faced first-time congressional candidate David LaPere in the newly formed 21st district seat which encompasses all of Tulare County and parts of Fresno County.

He ran in 1998 for Congress in the 20th district.
