Frank Pallone was elected to the U.S. House in 1988 with 52 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Joseph Azzolina. He was re-elected in 1990 with 51 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Paul Kapalko. He won re-election in 1992 with 54 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Joseph Kyrillos. He was re-elected in 1994 with 60 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Mike Herson.
In 1996, he was re-elected with 62 percent of the vote against Republican Steven Corodemus. Pallone was re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican Michael Ferguson with 57 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2000 with 67 percent of the vote. He won re-election in 2002 with 67 percent of the vote.
Before coming to Congress, Pallone was elected to two terms in the New Jersey Senate. He also served on the Long Branch City Council.
