Biography:

Marvin Parks was born in Wahiawa, Hawaii, in 1960 while his father served in the military.

Parks grew up in rural Conway, Ark., and received a degree in mathematics and physical education from the University of Central Arkansas. He served as a school teacher in the Conway Public Schools for 14 years. He coached basketball for a year and has also worked as a medical office manager and operated a small business in Greenbrier, Ark.

Parks was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1998 and serves as House minority leader.

He and his wife, Kristi, have 7 children.

Marvin Parks was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 1998 and re-elected in 2000.

Parks defeated businessman Ed Garner 69 percent to 31 percent in the race for the Republican nomination.
