Biography:

Bill Pascrell was born in Paterson, N.J., where he still resides. He received a bachelor's degree in 1959 and a master's degree in 1961 from Fordham University.

He served in the Army, 1961-67, then worked as a high school teacher, 1960-74. He served as a public official in Paterson, 1974-87, serving on the department of public works and on the board of education.

Pascrell served in the New Jersey Assembly, 1987-97, and as mayor of Paterson, 1990-97. He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

Pascrell and his wife, Elsie, have three children.


Past Campaigns:

Bill Pascrell was elected to the U.S. House in 1996, ousting incumbent Republican Rep. Bill Martini with 51 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican Matt Kirnan with 62 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 2000 with 67 percent of the vote. In 2002, he was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote.

Pascrell served as mayor of Paterson, N.J., 1990-97, and in the New Jersey Assembly, 1987-97.
